Cocaine Addiction in Ontario

Cocaine is a drug that acts as a stimulant and so it affects the nervous system in such a way as to give an elevated and euphoric feeling. It originally came from the plant called coca. There are different kinds of cocaine. There is the white powder form which is usually snorted and there is also another popular form of cocaine which is of lower purity and is freebase cocaine, it is called crack cocaine.

In 2005, it was found that over 4 per cent of the students had used cocaine in the last year. While there were about 2 per cent who admitted to use the crack form of cocaine. In 2003, there was a survey done on the adult community of Ontario and it was found that 7 percent had used cocaine at least once in their lives and 2 per cent had used it within the last twelve months.

In the city of Toronto, there was a study done on the street youth, and they found that 13 per cent of them usued cocaine regularly and showed signs of cocaine addiction. There were also 11 percent that reported crack cocaine use. It is obvious that cocaine is a pretty big thing within the street youth community. They said that 60 percent of them used cocaine or crack cocaine at least once a month.

Those statistics are alarming, but there are a lot of cocaine treatments available in Ontario so that the people addicted to that drug can get treated.
