Definition of Convulsions
Convulsions, sometimes called seizures, are when a body shakes uncontrollably. There are several causes for this. It could be a medical condition such as epilepsy or heart disease, or an injury such as to the head or electric shock or it could be due to drug use. Whatever the reason, a person having convulsions needs immediate medical attention.
Convulsions themselves can say a lot as to what is going on with a person. If someone starts having a convulsion, pay attention to which arms and or legs are mostly affected. If it is the left, it could very well be a stroke.
Drug use such as cocaine or PCP, alcohol use and barbiturates can all lead to convulsions. The body and the brain are having negative reactions to the drugs and convulsions are the result.
Convulsions, no matter what the cause, can be scary to see and especially to go through. There are people around who have been through them and there are counselors who can help a person to understand them and deal with them better. Educating the family is very important and can lead to successful ways to deal with convulsions.
Convulsions are very real. Where delusions and paranoia are not well understood by the general public as only the person experiencing them have the feeling, convulsions can be seen by others and are taken a lot more seriously than delusional occurrences are. Whether the person is having them due to a medical or drug situation, it is key to safely get the person through the convulsion so that they may be properly diagnosed and dealt with.
Once the person finds out the cause of the convulsions, a treatment plan to fit that individual case can be attained. If it is drug related and the person is ready to come off of drugs, then a wonderful and natural withdrawal treatment can be done.
