Girl feeling depressedDefinition of Dizziness

Dizziness is one of the many side effects caused by drug and alcohol use. With alcohol, one can easily lose his equilibrium. This is the first sign of consuming too much alcohol. A person's balance is over, he is stumbling, his words can be incoherent or make no sense at all. He is drunk.

Drugs can also cause dizziness. There has long been a problem with teens sniffing paint and even gasoline. This is extremely dangerous and causes blackouts and hallucinations, causing panic, distress and leading to even more dangerous situations for the teen and others.

This writer had the opportunity to go to a narcotics group session as an onlooker with the permission of the counselor and the former drug users. An interesting thing that kept coming up with a couple of them was the complaint that they were dizzy after stopping the use of marijuana. One of them even said she might as well go back to using it so the dizziness would stop. Another patient informed her that the dizziness would eventually go away, it was just her body removing the toxins that had built up over the years. She was convinced to wait it out and I saw just how wonderful and important these sessions can be to former addicts who fight a battle constantly to stay clean. I left with a new respect and admiration for the counselors and addicts alike as they helped not only themselves but each other.

Not only is dizziness common in over indulging in alcohol but it can definitely linger on after someone makes the decision to stop taking drugs. This is one of the reasons why it is important to keep one's self under a doctor's care when coming off of drugs and alcohol. Also, there is always the chance that dizziness stems from something else such as a heart attack or stroke so never take these spells lightly. Consult your doctor and if it gets worse, have someone get you to the emergency room.
