Drug Addiction in Regina, Saskatchewan
Alcohol and drug addiction is, to state the obvious, everywhere. The problems with drug addiction have grown and keep growing despite the best efforts of government, law enforcement, treatment centers, education and families. It is not totally unheard of for the very people trying to change things, fighting the good fight in the war against alcoholism and drug addiction to fall prey to it themselves. Alcohol and drugs are a huge problem not only in Canada but just about every corner of the globe. Regina too fall in this category, it has its own issues with drugs and alcohol. This is not uncommon, unfortunately most every village, town and city in North America has its issues with drugs and alcohol.
Regina not only has a problem with alcohol but is also developing problems with other drugs in ever increasing amounts. Drugs like crack cocaine, crystal-meth and a growing problem with the illegal prescription drug trade on the street. This is becoming a growing problem as just recently in February 2001 police made arrests due to drug trafficking in Regina. Cocaine, ecstasy and marijuana were all seized. These drugs were all meant to be sold on the street. Prescription drug abuse is also on the rise. More and more drug pushers are turning to the lucrative selling of prescription drugs. The drugs themselves are very easy to get a hold of for those who wish to take them. Robbing a pharmacy leads to a treasure trove of prescription drugs but is rather risky. More often than not the drug supplier himself has many smaller suppliers. The young drug abuser of today’s world has a never ending supply of drugs to sell, most of which come from the medicine cabinets of parents and grandparents. Considering that the resale value of prescription drugs on the street can rise to almost 400% selling just a handful of pills from a single bottle can lead to more than a little pocket cash.
