Drug Addiction in Toronto, Ontario

Toronto is known as one of Canada’s most culturally active spots in Canada. It attracts more immigrants than anywhere else in Canada, and is the number two spot in the world for immigrants to choose to make their home. This quickly growing city has access to museums, a very active night scene and with that, it brings drugs and organized crime. It is impossible in this day and age to have a city as large as Toronto without having drug addiction be prevalent among the people who live there.

Powdered cocaine, meth, marijuana, Oxycontin and alcohol are the drugs of choice in this bustling city.  The dangerous drugs of Oxycontin, cocaine and meth are rising rapidly in popularity and use. Most commonly used in Toronto is a mixture of those three, or taking them all within an hour of each other mixing it with alcohol as well.

Police are doing their very best to infiltrate organized crime in Toronto, but it is home to some very well known major families. The Hells Angels have a branch in Toronto, and with the recent arrest of most of the Montreal division, this biker gang has seen room to grow. The Rizzuto family is another well known player in the illegal world, making most of their money from the illegal drug trade and prostitution. Recently some thirteen hundred charges were laid against the head of this family, an eighty two year old man.

The danger to the everyday citizens who want nothing to do with illegal activity is that they are surrounded by it. The families argue for turf and execution style murders happen without too much regard for those who might get caught in the crossfire.  There are many members only sports style bars that the mafia have been known to frequent, right next to the clubs that any other person could go to. The only good thing with this much organized crime, is that small time dealers have a hard time finding a place to get started selling their product.
