Drug Detox in London, Ontario
Most of the drug detoxification centers in London, Ontario are going to be government-funded programs. This is a great thing because it means that all drug addicts will be admitted, no matter what their economic situation might be. When an addict is admitted into one of these programs, they should be prepared for a medical detox.
Most of the detoxification programs now use a combination of cold turkey withdrawal combined with medications. Unless the staff thinks that taking the addict off drugs completely could seriously jeopardize their health, the addict will not be allowed to take the drugs that they have become addicted to. What the staff will do though is administer drugs that are designed to help ease the addict’s withdrawal symptoms. While some addictions like heroin respond well to withdrawal medications, there are certain addictions that do not respond to drugs like methadone, which means that the addict is just going to have to ride it out.
In addition to helping ease the withdrawal symptoms the medication that is given to the addict by the detox staff is also supposed to help block the cravings until the addict has reached a point when they are better able to deal with them.
One of the things that addicts need to keep in mind is that it probably will not be able to get a bed in one of London’s drug detoxification centers. The odds are pretty good that the addict’s name will be added to a waiting list. While the addict waits for a bed to become available, they should start decreasing the amount of drugs that they are taking. This weaning process will help lessen the severity of their withdrawal symptoms.
The exact withdrawal symptoms the addict will experience will depend on what type of drug they are addicted to.
