Drug Detox in Toronto, Ontario
Living in a big city like Toronto means that the addicts have more options when it comes to getting help for their drug addictions. That is one of the advantages of living in a large city, as opposed to a rural environment. Since there are so many choices when it comes to drug detoxification centers it is very important that the addict considers the pros and cons of each program.
Most of the drug detox in Toronto are government funded. The biggest advantage these programs have to offer is the price. They will take any drug addicts no matter what their financial situation might be. The biggest downside is the waiting lists. By the time a bed, at one of the drug detox centers, is available the addict might have changed their mind about getting help.
Toronto has several private drug detoxification programs. Some of these programs can be very expensive but the thing the addicts like about these programs is that the drug detox centers are usually connected to the rehabilitation programs. The private establishments are normally a little nicer and have different types of detoxification methods.
A third drug detoxification program that is becoming popular is called rapid detoxification. This type of detoxification should take place in a hospital. The addict is given anesthesia and put to sleep while their body detoxifies. The advantage of this program is that the addict does not suffer, and the process is very fast. The disadvantage is that whenever anesthesia is used, there is always a chance that the patient will not wake up. Most hospitals will not perform rapid detox if they feel that the process could put the patients’ health and life at risk.
Once the addict has carefully considered each type of detoxification process, they can choose the one that they think will best fit their needs.
