Oxycodone Detox & Rehab Treatment in Edmonton, Alberta
Edmonton, Alberta has not escaped the problem that many other Canadian cities have experienced with the drug Oxycontin, and with a recent news story, deadly doses of Oxycontin may be in the hands of local drug dealers after up to $250,000 worth was stolen from a west-end warehouse. Investigators have issued an arrest warrant for a man in connection with the break and enter after combing through surveillance tape.
"The EPS has concern for the public's safety in relation to the stolen prescription drugs," says Det. Ryan Tebb of West Division. "Oxycontin is a commonly abused prescription pill, but the extremely high dosage of the pills that were stolen is the concerning factor. Consumption of a single pill at this dosage could depress the respiratory system sufficiently to possibly cause death."
About 5,400 tablets of the prescription Oxycontin tablets were stolen from the west-end business. Detectives estimate the drugs, if sold for about $30 a pill, have an estimated value between $150,000 and $250,000. Each 80-mg tablet is green. Terminally ill cancer patients, to relieve pain, commonly use that dosage.

Just because a medication is prescribed to a patient by a doctor, it does not mean that there cannot be some serious side effects. One of the most common side effects to oxycodone is becoming addicted to it. Oxycodone is one of the active ingredients in some commonly prescribed pain medications. When a person has become addicted to oxycodone, they will stop at very little in order to get more oxycodone.
The oxycodone detoxification is a very important part in helping the patient make a recovery. The purpose of the detoxification program is to make sure that the addict does not have anymore of the drug in their blood stream and to make sure that they can focus on their rehabilitation.
There are two types of drug detoxes available in Edmonton. One type is medical where the staff is trained to use medications to help ease the addicts oxycodone withdrawal symptoms and to help reduce the intensity of their cravings. The other type of detoxification that is available is a holistic form. Instead of medications, the staff at a holistic facility will often try to encourage exercise, meditation, and nutrition to help ease the detoxification.
In Edmonton, most addicts ultimately decide on a standard medical detoxification program. Cost is normally the deciding factor. These types of programs are usually run by the government and are the only thing the addict can afford. The length of time that the addict is in this program depends on how long the addict’s withdrawal symptoms last. When the staff feels that they have completely detoxified, the addict will be transferred from the detoxification facility and admitted into one of the residential drug rehab programs in Edmonton.
When the addict fully recovered, they will have to be careful about what types of medications they take in the future. It is important that they tell their doctor that they became addicted to oxycodone in the past and ask to be prescribed something less addictive to help them manage their pain.
