Outpatient Drug Rehabilitation in Fredericton New Brunswick

Even though drug addiction is not quite as big a problem in Canada as it is in the United States, New Brunswick has realized that if they don't do something to help the addicts who live in Fredericton that the problem could quickly escalate until it is out of control.

The Victoria hospital has put it upon themselves with their addiction services to try to help every addict in Fredericton NB to overcome their addiction. The way this is currently being handled is through a combination of detoxification, treatment, and counseling.

One of the things that often confuses people is that they are unsure of who should be admitted into the programs. The answer is simple. Anyone who is finding it impossible to get through the day, or even the week, without taking some type of drugs. Even if a person is unsure that they are truly addicted to drugs, they should enroll themselves into the program; the very fact that they are worried about being addicted indicates that without help, they could become an addict.

The program in Fredericton NB is set up so that the addict can go through the detoxification program before they become involved in the actual program. The detoxification portion of the therapy usually last three-five days and the addict is closely monitored throughout the process. One of the reasons the addict is monitored is to make sure that they don't get hurt while their body is coming down from its chemical induced high. The second reason the patient is monitored is so that the counselors can determine the extent of their addiction.

In a perfect world, the addict would enter a residential rehabilitation program as soon as they were completely detoxified, but this is not a perfect world and there is usually a waiting list. As a result, the patient is put into an outpatient program where they can at least start the recovery process while they wait for a bed to open up at one of the residential programs.

When the patient completes the residential program, it is usually strongly recommended that they enter an outpatient program where their treatment can continue. During this time, it is up to the patient to stay away from drugs. The counselors working with the addict make sure that the addict stays sober while they try to get to the reason why the addict turned to drugs in the first place.

The advantage to have the outpatient program in places like the Victoria Hospital is that if one of the addicts comes in stoned or if one of the counselors monitoring the program feels like the addict is a danger either to themselves or others the medical personnel is close at hand to take action. The addict can be admitted to the hospital right away. They will go through a detoxification program where they will be carefully observed, and a decision will be made about their immediate future. A majority of the outpatient drug rehab programs is funded by the Canadian government.
