Residential drug rehab

Drugs and alcohol residential facilities are best suited for individual with a severe addiction and would need to be outside of his environment for the whole treatment. These type of rehabs are divided in short term treatment which have a duration of 21 days and up to 45 days. The short term treatments would be suitable for addicts who have been using drug for a short period of time but their addiction have been out of control.

The longer term drug rehab centers are between 90 days and up to 6 months. These treatments give enough sobriety time to the person so they can receive enough counseling and be ready when they are back to society. You can even search drug rehabs by substances.

Outpatient drug rehab

Drugs and alcohol treatment facilities are designed to help people with a mild addiction. They attend the treatment for classes, visits with counselors or have group meetings. They can be long-term and patients can attend the rehab for as long as they need.

Intensive day treatment is only for people who have a good support system at home. There are programs that offer only education and some counseling and can also help families to deal with the addiction of their loved ones. This type of outpatient clinics are a perfect fit for individuals who do not have severe addictions.

Alcohol treatment programs

Alcoholism is the addiction problem which affect the most people in Canada. The main problem with alcohol addiction is that it is socially accepted and with young adults and adolescents, it is the "cool" thing to do. Even some parents will give the permission to their kids to drink at early age. There are a lot of misinformation on the danger of alcoholism.

Social drinking is no problem. It really becomes a problem when the individual start drinking alcohol to “relax” or "to be able to communicate”, etc. Also when someone is out control while he drinks. It can be on the amount to knock himself out with alcohol or the person start to behave in an irrationnal way that will be harmful for the person. That is why there are alcohol treatment centers.

Detox centers

Detoxing is the action to cease the use of a drug and/or alcohol in a safe way in a residential facility or on an outpatient basis supervised by a qualified counselor. Drugs and alcohol detox is the time that people experience withdrawal symptoms due to the discontinuation of the substance used.

A regular detox is done when the person uses drugs such as marijuana, cocaine, crack, meth etc,

A medical detox program designed specifically for you that will enable your drug detox and/or alcohol detox to be more comfortable and safe. It is medically supervised. are used when the individual is detoxing from opiate based drugs and pain killers such as heroin, oxycodone, methadone etc. It is also used to detox from prescription medication such as benzodiazepine, anti-depressant etc.

The most common use of medical detox is for alcohol which is probably the toughest substance to detox from when it is used on a daily basis.

Private alcohol and drug rehab centers

Private drugs and alcohol treatments are facilities where you or your insurance will pay for you to do the treatment. Most of the private rehabs in Canada are in British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario and Quebec.

The private treatments have different duration from normally 30 days and up to 6 months in the case of the bio-physical treatment. The price range will vary depending on the facility, duration, staff ratio etc. Also there different cost for programs. The cost does not necessarly follow the duration of the treatment. There are different factors such as the quality of the facility, ratio of staff and even the reputation of the rehab program.

AA & NA meetings

Meetings are referred to individuals who meet together to abide by a specific code called the twelve steps. They will share their experiences and will have a sponsor who will help get them through their addiction recovery.

When we refer to meetings, we refer to AA (Alcoholic Anonymous) NA (Narcotic Anonymous) and a full variety of obsessive compulsive problems followed by anonymous.

The 12 steps are based on a set of Spiritual (not religious) principles originally created by Alcoholics Anonymous in the United States in 1935. The only prerequesite to become a member is a desire to stop using drugs or drinking. There are no dues or fees to become and be a member.
