Intensive Day Treatment Programs

It is no secret that drug addiction and mental illness go hand in hand. This is because the brain is being altered by drug use and can cause permanent damage. There are different types of treatment programs and one of them is an intensive day treatment program.

An intensive day treatment program is popular with teens and children as well as others who need an outpatient program for one reason or another. There are workshops which provide education and training, understanding and methods to help recover from drug addiction. Younger people have the security and benefits of going home at the end of each day. Those who are adults have that same feeling of security along with the necessary time needed to deal with the added responsibilities of being an adult.

Once a person goes through the intensive day treatment program, he is not simply left to wander aimlessly but is involved in a continual aftercare program that helps him through any stumbling blocks he may come across. There is always a helpline available with someone to talk to should he feel a little wave of uncertainty or find himself on shaky ground.

One of the best things about an intensive day treatment program is it educates a person in relapse prevention which is the biggest battle people face once they leave daily treatment. While the helpline is always available, it is the training learned during the intensive day treatment program itself that can make or break a relapse situation so counselors are adamant and diligent about helping outpatients get the maximum benefits out of the program.

Intensive day treatment program is found to be a fundamentally good way to keep up the regimen of recovery. Following up and knowing the helpline is always available, can lead to an all around maximum likelihood of not relapsing. This is a program that works because of the merits of not only its intensity but the fact that it is outpatient while giving the same benefits of a residential program except for overnight stays.

The day care drug rehab centers are not suited for people with a severe addiction to drugs and alcohol.
