Is it better to go away for treatment?
There are no universal answers to a question like this. For some people doing a treatment locally can be beneficiary but for most people being away is much better for a few reasons:
- The environment can be a huge trigger for the addict. They get to the weekend and everything to use drugs or alcohol is readily available. It can be very hard for someone trying to fight addiction.
- Treatment facilities are not locked down so they just leave, which makes it harder if they do not have any connection to the immediate environment.
- Being away also act has a new start for them. It gives them hope of being able to a fresh start.
