Is The Use Of Methadone Simply Replacing One Addiction With Another?

It has been found statistically that a large percentage of drug addicts do not avail of the treatment that is possible to get out of the addiction.  Only a small percentage goes for treatment. This may be due to fear and anxiety through keep the fact of this addiction a secret.  Such persons do not realize that sooner or later their condition will come to light because of their various actions typically if his employer will find him slack and haphazard in his work and also unable to meet the targets set for him. Those who go for treatment get the medicines prescribed to neutralize the harmful effects of drugs being taken by them.  The medicines prescribed will depend on the potency of the drug being taken by them.

It may sound peculiar and strange but some drugs are countered with other forms of drugs.  Methadone is one such drug usually prescribed. It is expected that use of methadone will remove the craving for the drug and eventually the person will stop using the drug.  But it may happen that prescribing a medicine like methadone to counter the drug, may show positive results in the beginning, but may become counterproductive in the end. It depends on the length of time taken to administer methadone to cure him completely of the addiction problem. There may not be a problem if the period of treatment is short, to get a good result. But continued use of methadone may help the person to get out of his original drug addiction, but he may get attached to methadone.

On the face of it, it is not a good idea to use a narcotic to counter another narcotic.  Researchers have certainly found out other forms of treatment which can bring positive results.  Methadone therefore appears to be not a good medicine for treating addiction.
