Residential Drug Rehab in Manitoba

Manitoba does not have the funding that some of the other provinces have. The lower median income makes the province prime ground for drug dealers, and as a result the province has plenty of drug addicts. The best way to deal with the drug addicts is to turn them into useful citizens, and the best way to do that is by getting them into rehab.

One of the biggest problems Manitoba is currently dealing with is that they don't have enough residential drug rehabilitation programs. Without a doubt, these types of programs have experienced the most success when it comes to rehabilitating drug addicts.

What is a Residential Drug Rehabilitation Program?

Residential drug rehabilitation programs are a type of rehab where the addict moves into the rehab facility where they are isolated from the world they've always known so they can reinvent themselves while they kick their drug addiction. It is not uncommon for the facility to be located in the middle of nowhere so that the addicts can focus on themselves and there is less chance of drugs being smuggled into the facility. While the addict is a patient, they go through several different kinds of therapy and gradually learn that they can live without the artificial influence of drugs.

Even though on the surface most of the rehabs look the same, each one has a very unique personality, style, and philosophy. Just because one addict responds well to the therapy at one facility doesn't mean someone else will respond the same way. That is why it is so important that addicts keep trying different rehabs when the first ones don't work out.

Why They Work

The reason a residential drug rehabilitation program works varies from one person to the next. For some people the reason they are able to kick a lifelong habit while in a residential program and no other types of rehab is because they feel safe. Others respond to the fact that they don't have to worry about anyone but themselves. Others respond well to the therapy. The reason why the addict responds to the program isn't nearly as important as the fact that they do respond.

How Long Are They

There are basically two types of residential drug rehabilitation; a short version, and a long version. The short version usually lasts twenty-eight days. The long version can be anywhere from 60-150 days long. The Manitoba government prefers the short version, since the high patient turnover allows more people to be helped throughout the course of a year. While there are some addicts who do very well when they've taken the short program, most experts feel the longer rehab gives the addict more time and resources to actually get all the counseling and tools they need to survive in the real world.

Enrolling

If you would like to get yourself enrolled in a residential drug rehabilitation program, one of the best things you can do is contact the Addiction Foundation of Manitoba. They have the resources and the knowledge to help match you up with the drug rehab that best suits you.
