Marijuana is a very significant problem in Ontario. In 2004, there was a survey done within the street youth community. It was found that 84 percent of them said they used marijuana at least once a month. And young students also take marijuana, actually 53 percent admitted to using cannabis on a regular basis. Students were asked what drug would be the easiest to get, and out of all the illicit drugs, cannabis came first with 46 percent. There is also 53 percent that said that they were aware that there were risks involved in regular use of marijuana.

Trends show that 13 percent of Ontario’s population use marijuana. It is also a fact that most of the marijuana users and abusers are within the age of 18 and 29 years old. And the trend also shows that there are more males and females that use marijuana. The frequency of use is also a big factor as a lot of people smoke pot weekly. Those people are the ones that might need the most help in a treatment facility.
