Residential Drug Rehab Programs in New Brunswick

Like most of the Canada's provinces, New Brunswick has come to the realization that one of the best ways to deal with their current drug problem, and make sure it doesn't get any worse, is to provide several types of rehabilitation options for the citizens that have already developed a drug addiction. Two of the options that are available to the residents of New Brunswick include short term residential drug drug rehabilitation program and long term residential drug rehabilitation program. Both types of therapy have proven to be very effective for helping drug addicts overcome their addiction.

One of the reasons residential drug rehabilitation programs have been successful to turn people's lives around is because the facilities provide a safe haven where the addicts can get away from their problems and focus on healing what caused them to become addicted to drugs in the first place. Instead of worrying about their job, their family, or where they are going to get the money for more drugs, the addicts can focus all of their attention on themselves for a change.

By no means is the residential drug rehab program going to be easy. It certainly is not going to be a vacation. While a person is in rehab they will be going through intense counseling sessions, both with themselves, and in a group of fellow drug addicts. The purpose of the counseling sessions is to delve into the reasons why the person became addicted to drugs, how their lifestyle has allowed the addiction to manifest, and what they are going to have to change so they can avoid slipping into the same self destructive patterns when they are released from therapy.

Currently New Brunswick has 13 residential drug rehabilitation facilities. While having that many options might seem overwhelming at first, there are some things people should look for before admitting themselves in a program:

  • The staff should be knowledgeable and professional
  •  In addition to making sure the counselors have degrees in psychology, they should be certified as rehabilitation counselors.
  •  The people administering the drugs should be licensed to do so.
  •  Find out if the facility deals just with drug rehabilitation, or do they also help treat other types of addictions and disorders.

One of the key reasons that residential drug rehab is so successful is because the facility is safe. This won't happen if other patients are dangerous, so before being admitted, find out exactly what type of screening process the facility has for weeding out addicts with volatile personalities.

Don't assume that the first residential drug rehabilitation facility you visit is the same as all the rest. One of their reasons that New Brunswick has 13 different facilities is because different people require different things from their rehab. Some addicts do best in an environment where the counselors run everything, including their therapy sessions, in a militant manner while other addicts find that they respond best when they are in an environment that is softer and kinder.

Taking some time to consider the pros and cons of each of New Brunswick's residential rehabilitation facilities increases the chances of choosing one that best suits your personality, which increases the chances that you will conquer your addiction.
