Residential Drug Rehab in Nova Scotia

The percentage of people in Nova Scotia struggling with a drug addiction is fairly close to the national average. When someone looks at the number of Nova Scotian’s struggling with a drug addiction, about 5,500 people, it may seem like it should cause much concern. It is important to consider that if there aren't any drug rehabilitation programs available, the number of addicts in the province will increase. It can have a devastating effect on both the province's economy which will start to deteriorate and the crime rate which will start climbing.

In Nova Scotia if a person feels like they are losing control of their lives because of a drug problem they need to call the toll free number. The person who answers the phone will be able to help the addict get assigned to one of Nova Scotia's three detoxification facilities.

The addicts will need to go to a detoxification facility before they can start a program. The purpose of the detoxification process is to provide the addict's body enough time to get rid of the toxins that build up in a person's system as the result of long term drug use. Once the drugs are completely out of the person's body, they will be able to concentrate on the recovery process.

There are numerous physical and emotional side effects that go along with the detoxification process. It is not something the addict should try to go through on their own. While they are in the detoxification center, the patient will be closely monitored by a professional who will make sure that they stay safe.

When the detoxification process is done, the patient will be ready to enter into one of Nova Scotia's 16 residential drug rehabilitation programs.

Some patient's think that after detoxification; the 28 days they spend in rehabilitation will be a piece of cake. It usually doesn't take them very long to realize how wrong they are. The first thing the patient discovers is that just because they have gone through the detoxification process doesn't mean they've lost their addiction, and they spend a great deal of time thinking about when they will be getting their next fix .

The other thing the patient quickly learns is that the endless rounds of counseling they go through as a part of rehabilitation process is extremely emotional. The patient quickly discovers that in order to overcome their addiction they need to reveal things they never thought they would say to anyone.

Getting themselves admitted into one of Nova Scotia's residential drug rehabilitation programs is not an easy decision for an addict to make. Most of the programs last a minimum of twenty-eight days which is the time that the patient won't be with their family, nor when they'll be able to work. During the rehabilitation, the patient will be monitored by the facilities staff round the clock and every move the patient makes will be closely monitored.

Successfully completing one of the Nova Scotia's residential drug rehabilitation programs requires commitment, honesty, sacrifice, and discipline.
