Oxycontin Detox in Nova Scotia

When a person becomes addicted to Oxycontin they do not usually think about the pitfalls. The only thing they are able to think about is the dreamlike state that the drug puts them into. When the state wears off, they will pop more pills. The problem is that as time goes by, the person needs more and more of the Oxycontin in order to slip into that state. Eventually the person will sometimes start to mix the Oxycontin with alcohol or other drugs and this is when things start to get really dangerous, and could potentially cost the addict's life.

Some Oxycondin addicts realize that they have a problem and seek out treatment on their own. Others require an intervention of their friends and family members before they finally agree with the idea of getting help. For others it takes getting caught breaking the law before they are ready to get the help that they need.

When the person admits that they need to get help for their Oxycontin addiction, they will have to enroll in one of Nova Scotia’s three drug detoxification programs. This is when the person discovers the downfalls to their addiction. There is very little that is worse than the Oxycontin detoxification.

The purpose of the detoxification is to purge the person’s body of the Oxycontin. For long term users this is going to take a long while, much longer than the actual length of the detoxification process. No one expects the person to be completely free of the residual effects of the drugs. The hope is that the time spent in the Oxycontin detoxification center will at least get them through the worst of their withdrawal symptoms, allowing them to focus on the counseling they receive in rehab instead of how ill they are.

The severity of the Oxycontin withdrawal symptoms usually depends on how long the person has been addicted to the drug. The individual’s body chemistry can usually play a role. For most people the withdrawal is the equivalent of a really bad flu. For most people the initial withdrawal, the one that makes them ill, lasts for anywhere from six hours to thirty hours. After this point the individual is ready to be moved into the Oxycontin rehabilitation program in Nova Scotia where they will be able to start learning how to live without the high they got while taking the Oxycontin.
