Prescription Drugs Detox and Treatment in Prince Edward Island

The small province of Prince Edward Island, on the Eastern coast of Canada, is all but cut off from the rest of the world. With a bridge that runs only to New Brunswick it is hard to imagine any kind of drug being a problem on this small island. Although the nine percent of people having a drug problem is among the lowest in all of Canada, it is still a problem that needs addressing. Addiction to prescription drugs can quickly escalate out of control if left unchecked.

The most common prescription drug addiction is that of morphine. Usually morphine is started legitimately after a serious injury. Addicts keep getting their prescriptions filled either by their first doctor, or by doctor shopping, with more then one doctor all prescribing the same drug. With the street mark up on these style of drugs more then one thousand percent, an addict that has to purchase from a dealer, can quickly find themselves stealing and in big trouble, trying to get what they need. One can get help by findind a drug rehab center in Prince Edward Island.

Prescription drugs are more common in women, then in men. Women are also twice as likely to see different doctors to get the prescriptions that they need, to fill their prescription drug addiction. Antidepressants are commonly abused by both sexes, but again more commonly found in women. Residents with a serious prescription drug addiction have to be sent over to Heritage Home: a treatment center located just outside of Montreal, Quebec.

Prescription drug addicts often are not seen as an addict until the addiction is quite severe.  The majority of accidental overdoses leading to death are through prescription drugs.  Emergency hospital rooms are filled with women and men that have taken more then the safely prescribed dosage, most commonly being antidepressants. Prescription drug addiction is just as serious as that of chemical street drugs.
