Prescription Drugs Detox and Treatment for Calgary, Alberta

Calgary is a fairly large city, fourth in size in Canada. The drug population in Calgary is quite diverse; no one drug standing out more than the other. However, studies have been done on prescription drugs, who is using them and why, and the findings are quite alarming.

Older adults, especially the baby-boom generation, teens, and women are the highest percentage of prescription-drug addicts. Studies were done on the aboriginal community as well. Women again in their forties and fifties made up the majority of those that said they either abused or were addicted to a prescription drug. Half of the women who reported using or abusing prescription drugs obtained their drug from a friend. Medication purchased through a street dealer, and those who obtained it legally from a pharmacy made up almost the other half.

Calgary is a city of just over a million residents. The residents of Calgary do have some options when pursuing treatment; however, there are limited resources available to someone who cannot pay at all. The most affordable option in Alberta costs $15 per day. The waiting list is at least six weeks to get into any facility, and that is if it is an emergency. Sometimes the wait exceeds a year. It is important to choose a drug rehab program in Calgary that suits the addict best.

The boom in the economy a few years prior caused a boom in population and in drug sales. Prescription drugs are no exception. Drug dealers boomed when the economy did.
