Prince Edward Island Info
Prince Edward Island is in the region of eastern Canada on the Atlantic coast which consists of four provinces New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland-Labrador. Situated in the Eastern Canada, Prince Edward Island is northeast of New England (U.S.), southeast of the Gaspé Peninsula (Québec) and southwest of Newfoundland. Ah, what exquisite province Prince Edward Island is! A big factor of his charm comes from the beautiful sceneries and the gregarious friendliness of the people.
Although P.E.I is very appealing for tourism, there are, nonetheless, corrupted drugs and alcohol networks. Alcohol comes in first place in terms of addiction, followed by cannabis, cocaine, and other miscellaneous drugs. Intravenous drugs, such as heroin, are present too, but we see it more rarely (about 1% of the Canadian population uses it). Since there are multiple addictions, there are also various types of drug rehabilitation centers, working with their own personal drug treatment method. Making the decision to go into drug rehab is the best gift you can offer yourself or a loved one! However, choosing the appropriate drug treatment center is not an easy task; there are so many different drug and alcohol rehabs, different drug treatment programs and philosophies! It can get very confusing at some point. But there are people who are there to help sort out the different drug treatments and rehabs available.
Student Drug Abuse In PEI
In 2007 the province of Prince Edward Island (PEI) conducted a drug survey; the last one had been done in 2002. This survey was part of a coordinated Atlantic Canada initiative to determine the problems of drug abuse among Atlantic Canada students. In PEI, 3000 students were surveyed in grades 7, 9, 10 and 12. The results of the survey were very similar to the results that were discovered in 2002. The survey reported that alcohol is still the drug of choice among students in Atlantic Canada. 77% of grade twelve students reported drinking at least once in their life.
One in four students in PEI has used marijuana, and this is still the lowest in all of Atlantic Canada. 37% of grade twelve students reported smoking marijuana at least once in their life. Meanwhile, 5% of the students surveyed reported using stimulants and 3% reported using other illicit drugs. Health Minister Doug Currie said: “The government is committed to providing enhanced youth addictions programming in the province. As work continues on the development of the Youth Addictions Strategy and we move toward implementation, we are looking broadly at youth addiction needs including education, prevention, assessment, intervention, treatment and rehabilitation.”
The young people of PEI are going to need a drug rehab program in order to not continue their drug abuse over a long period of time. There are different drug treatment programs available, such as outpatient drug treatment, residential drug rehab programs, etc.
