Outpatient Drug Rehabilitation Programs in Saskatchewan
When compared to other Canadian Provinces, Saskatchewan is providing their residents with a great deal of drug rehabilitation. Approximately 36,000 residents in Saskatchewan are believed to be struggling with a drug addiction. The most important thing is to make sure that the addicts have access to the rehabilitation that they need in order to get over their addiction
Right now there are approximately 66 facilities in Saskatchewan that are equipped to help drug addicts overcome their addiction and resume a normal life. Of these 66 rehabilitation facilities, 40 of them are outpatient programs.
There are a few differences between the government funded residential drug programs and the outpatient rehabilitation programs in Saskatchewan The most obvious difference is that when the addict is in a residential program they are not able to leave the program. Their actions are monitored 24 hours a day, eliminating the odds that they are sneaking drugs. An outpatient program is one where the addict only receives counseling a few times a week. When they aren't in counseling the addict is free to go about their life.
Most experts feel that an addict has the greatest chance of overcoming their addiction to drugs when they combine both types of drug rehabilitation. The experts feel that the first thing an addict needs to do is go through a detoxification program and rid themselves of the toxins. Immediately after completing the detoxification the addict should be placed into a residential program.
Drug rehabilitation experts love residential programs. In addition to liking the fact that the addict has no access to drugs, the experts feel that the intense counseling the addict gets while they are enrolled in the program is an important part of eventually moving past the drug addiction and becoming a vital member of the society. The only complaint that the experts have with residential programs is that they are too short. The experts feel that 28 days is barely enough for the patient to work all the drugs from their system.
After the 28 day residential program the addict needs to enroll in one of Saskatchewan's outpatient drug therapy programs. The average length of these programs is 90 days. The amount of time that the addict spends at the program depends on the way that the program is set up. Some meet every single day and others only meet once or twice a week. While the addict is in the outpatient program they will learn to go about their daily life without the help of drugs. The addict will also be provided with a list of sources that they can use whenever they feel that there is a chance that they might turn to drugs.
In addition to making sure that the addict gets the counseling they need, the counselors who work at the outpatient drug rehabilitation programs are also trained to identify the signs that the person is using. Most of the counselors who are working in Saskatchewan's outpatient treatment facilities are social workers who have only recently graduated from college and are trying to gain some real world experience.
