What is street drugs?
The use of street drugs is one of the best examples of being a boon as well curse to the mankind. It is all because of the way these drugs are used and consumed that makes the difference. The lifestyles of the modern world which is hard for some has given rise to this wrong use of drugs. People have taken street drugs as a support to fight against their own psychological imbalance and other problems of life which they are not able to take care of.
But, today that is not the case because there might not be such specific reasons as to why the person has got in street drugs addiction. The other major trouble is also that these are very easily available and with children who are not in an age to understand what is correct or incorrect it has spread its wings very rapidly. Let us see which drugs are the most commonly available street drugs which are also the most hazardous as per the researches and analyses.
The top on the list which has been havoc for years now is tobacco. Facts and figures show how tobacco has made people lose their lives. But, that does not make any difference to the increasing popularity of tobacco.
Alcohol is the next in row. Alcohol is known for being the reason behind a large number of accidents. The deaths caused by liver problems arising due to alcoholism are also very high in number. Drugs prescribed by physician for stress etc are being used very popularly as a medium of addiction.
Cocaine, marijuana, methamphetamine, heroin and steroids are also popular on a very high level. This growing popularity of the drugs is alarming and more alarming is the fact that it is very easily accessible even to the youth and kids. Kids and youth are the major target of the drug suppliers for one simple reason that it is very easy to get them in to drugging.
Inhalants and the solvents are the other street drugs that are rising danger amongst the youth and children of a younger age. Glues, rubber cement, gasoline, aerosols, thinners, nail paint removers and many other solvents are being used for drug addiction. These kinds of street drugs are again very easily available and are spreading amongst the younger generations widely.
Street drugs in Canada
A lot of stories have been told about people getting addicted to drugs they bought on the street, such as cocaine, marijuana, heroin, methamphetamine, etc. A lot of people get addicted to street drugs because of recreational use. It is because of the euphoric effect the drugs have on the person who takes them. It is addictive because when the euphoric effect ceases, the person will feel an unbelievable emotional downer, known as a “crash”, which will push them to use more drugs.
As a person goes on using drugs, he or she develops a physical tolerance for the drug and so will start using more and more. There are several things which can be used to detect if one is actually addicted to the drug he or she is using. Sometimes people start mixing various drugs on a regular basis, or they might start stealing so that they can get more drugs. They also start distancing themselves from their close friends and family. They might also start lying about how much or how often they use drugs. Those are all signs of street drug addiction.
There was a study made in Canada which showed that Canadians use a lot of cannabis. Actually, 14 percent of Canadians said that they had used marijuana, which is double what it was back in 1994. Between 15 and 17 years old, there are 30 percent that used marijuana in the last year and 47 percent when people were 18 and 19 years old. There has also been an increase of other drug addiction in Canada. It has also been shown that there are more men than women between 18 to 24 years old that are addicted to drugs other than marijuana.
It seems that young people use that drug more than older people in Canada. 33 percent of younger people admitted to using cannabis in the last year compared to 7 percent for older people. When it comes to other illegal street drugs, the rate is 15 percent for younger people and almost 2 percent for older people. So drug addiction is a big problem in Canada and so must be fought the right way.
