Overcoming Drug Addiction in Winnipeg and Drug Rehab Outpatient
The good news is that Winnipeg does have some drug treatment facilities, both residential ones and programs that are outpatient. The problem is that there are more drug addicts in Winnipeg than the programs can help. The waiting lists for the drug treatment programs in Winnipeg are long. There are two ways that Winnipeg can get start to get ahead of their drug problem.
The first is to create more outpatient drug programs. While the demand is there, the funding isn't really available. The second way to help reverse the drug problem in Winnipeg is to make sure that all of the drug addicts that make it into the drug rehabilitation programs stay rehabilitated and don't start using drugs again.
When a resident of Winnipeg is told that they need to enroll in an outpatient drug program the first thing they want to know is how long they are going to have to attend. The reason for the question is because they want to know how long it is going to take for the program to be completed so that they can get back to their regular life.
The truth is that it would be nice if the outpatient treatment program would last forever. If they did, the addict would always have a support system, someplace that they could go whenever they feel the need to shoot up or reach for a bottle of pills. Sadly, since nearly the entire outpatient drug rehabilitation programs are funded by the Canadian government the funding isn't possible for the person to stay in the program indefinitely. Eventually they have to graduate from the program so that another addict can get the help that they need.
Currently the average amount of time that a drug addict should stay enrolled in one of Winnipeg outpatient treatment programs is three months. This means that assuming the addict also went through one of Winnipeg residential programs that they will have been in counseling for 3 months. Theoretically it should be long enough to overcome their addiction but more often than not it isn't. Usually the addict is back on drugs shortly after they have left the program.
The key to successfully overcoming the addiction usually has to do with what the addict does after they have left the program. This is usually when they learn how serious they were about overcoming their addiction and starting to lead a healthy and clean life.
The first thing an addict should do is get involved in one of Winnipeg narcotics anonymous programs. The better a support unit the addict has, the less likely the addict will be to succumb to the urges when they feel the need for drugs. The inviting family member and close friends of the addict to also go through a type of treatment program will also help the addict stay off drugs when they are no longer involved in the outpatient treatment program. The idea is to teach the people closest to the addict what signs to look for, will help them prevent the addict from starting to use a second time.
