If a person can solve a problem, even though he or she is upset, then that person is not in a crisis; so what is a crisis?
When we are in a crisis, our normal way of thinking, feeling, and behaving is disrupted. A crisis creates situations that usually cannot be solved by regular coping methods that we normally use.
There are times when we may feel upset, disappointed, or tired because of situations that occur to us throughout life. A crisis can involve the following examples:
A child abuse investigation, spousal abuse, unplanned pregnancy, divorce or separation, sickness, incarceration of a loved one, alcohol and drug abuse, and mental problems can create stress and crises.
Poverty and unemployment can create stress within a family as does money spent on gambling and any other addiction.
Poor housing conditions and neighbourhood violence affect a community's feeling of safety.
SIGNIFICANT LIFE EVENTS
We can be overcome with grief with the loss of a loved one.
Our cultures speak of the Eagle as a guardian. The cry of the eagle is a warning of danger to seek help and comfort as protection.
