About this center

McDougall House is a residential, women-only addiction recovery program in Edmonton, Alberta that provides extended, abstinence-based support within a tranquil, home-like setting. One of the province’s long-standing second-stage recovery residences, McDougall House builds on more than 50 years of helping women transition from short-term treatment into deeper personal growth and sustained recovery.

A Second-Stage Residential Setting With Safety and Stability

Rather than serving as initial detox or brief intervention, McDougall House operates as a second-stage residential program for women who have already completed an initial residential treatment phase and who are ready to deepen their recovery work. The environment is intentionally gender-specific, creating emotional and physical safety that supports reflection, trust, and mutual support among peers.

Structured, Individualized Healing in Daily Life

Daily life at McDougall House blends structured routines with personalized recovery planning. Each woman works with counsellors to co-design her recovery goals, and programming includes individual and group counselling, educational workshops tailored to women’s experiences (such as trauma, relapse prevention, and relationships), and community engagement through Twelve-Step participation and experiential learning. These components are woven into the rhythm of daily living to support insight, coping skills, and behavioural change.

Community and Connection Beyond the Facility

Women at McDougall House are encouraged to build supportive networks in the wider community as part of their recovery path. Establishing connection with sponsors, ongoing counselling resources, and sober social activities helps reinforce progress made within the residence and supports sustainable life patterns beyond discharge.

A Transitional Environment for Women Moving Toward Independence

McDougall House often resonates with women who benefit from a residential environment that bridges structured treatment and independent living. By combining a safe, supportive home with individualized recovery planning and community connection, the centre offers a pathway toward greater stability, self-authorship, and long-term wellness after addiction.
