Mikaaming Mino Pimatiziwin Healing Lodge is a family-centred residential addictions treatment program located in the Sagkeeng First Nation (Fort Alexander), Manitoba. It supports First Nations and Inuit families dealing with alcohol and drug addiction by providing a culturally grounded, holistic recovery experience where daily life, healing work, traditional teachings, and family involvement are part of the therapeutic process.
A Residential Program Rooted in Tradition and Community
This centre offers a seven-week residential treatment program that integrates Indigenous cultural practices, community support, and therapeutic elements to help participants address the physical, emotional, and relational impacts of substance use. The model places emphasis on cultural identity, family connection, and empowerment as part of sustained recovery rather than short-term clinical care alone.
Family-Focused Healing With Practical Supports
Families enter the program together in self-contained suites that accommodate adults alongside their children. A day care and classroom on site ensure that children are cared for and continue their education while parents engage in treatment sessions. Traditional teachings such as sweat lodge ceremonies and culturally relevant recovery components are woven into the weekly curriculum, fostering respect, resilience, and community rootedness in the recovery process.
Structured Weekly Curriculum Designed for Growth
The program’s seven-week schedule moves through themes such as assessment and respect, addiction truth, relationships and love, emotional honesty, grieving and wisdom, self-awareness, and relapse prevention with courage. This phased structure helps families address the varied aspects of addiction, from understanding its effects to building practical coping strategies and personal insight, within a supportive cohort environment.
A Cultural and Community-Anchored Path to Recovery
Led by a model that emphasizes traditional healing, cultural pride, and family unity, Mikaaming Mino Pimatiziwin Healing Lodge supports clients in building healthier routines, deeper self-understanding, and strengthened relational bonds that carry forward into life beyond the lodge. Its focus on family participation and cultural grounding distinguishes it from standard residential programs, offering a unique path for Indigenous families seeking holistic recovery.
