Native Addictions Council of Manitoba is a long-established, Indigenous-focused addiction treatment and recovery organization in Winnipeg that provides culturally grounded support and healing services for adults whose substance use has significantly impacted their life and community. It has been operating for over 50 years and integrates traditional Indigenous practices with recovery work to support wellness across mind, body, and spirit.
Healing Through Traditional Practices and Community Support
NACM’s programs are rooted in Indigenous cultures and values, guided by principles such as respect, courage, wisdom, and truth, and incorporate traditional activities like smudging, sharing circles, ceremonial teachings, land-based cultural days, and sweat lodge ceremonies alongside structured recovery work. This culturally-safe approach helps participants reconnect with identity, strengthen resilience, and develop coping skills within a supportive, community-anchored environment.
Residential and Day-Program Recovery Options
The centre offers multi-week programs, including a 6-week In-House Healing program and a 5-week Recovery & Follow-Up day program, that blend cultural ceremonies with relapse prevention, self-awareness work, communication skills, and tools for long-term wellbeing. These programs are designed to foster healing, empowerment, and practical recovery planning while honouring cultural traditions.
Culturally Safe, Strength-Based Care With Community Roots
NACM serves people from diverse Indigenous backgrounds and uses strength-based language, referring to those in its programs as “Relatives” and “participants” rather than clinical labels. The organisation is accredited by Accreditation Canada and staffed by certified counsellors and specialists who bring cultural insight and professional expertise to recovery services.
A Culturally Anchored Path Toward Sustainable Recovery
By embedding substance use recovery within traditional healing practices and community support, NACM provides a pathway that supports deeper personal and cultural connection alongside behavioural change, helping people work toward sustained stability, spiritual grounding, and renewed purpose beyond the program.
