Rising Above FSJ is a residential recovery centre in Baldonnel near Fort St John, BC, created to help women whose alcohol or drug use, and often related challenges like housing instability or life disruption, has already begun affecting daily functioning, relationships, and stability. It grew out of local recovery efforts and has strong community roots while also drawing on the established model of Rising Above Ministries.
A Place to Step Back and Start Over
Women typically come here when attempts to manage substance use on their own haven’t held and the consequences are now showing up in the life they’re still living. Rather than outpatient sessions, residents live on site for an extended period where recovery is part of everyday routine and community support, not an item on a schedule.
Living Recovery in a Structured Environment
Daily life at the Fort St John location is organized around core recovery work that blends faith-based grounding, abstinence-based structure, mentorship, peer support, and personal reflection. The program is centred on helping women slow down harmful patterns, build steadier habits, and strengthen mindset and behaviour in ways that can translate into more stable living once the residential phase ends.
Completing the Early, Often Hardest Phase
This site offers a 6-month residential program where participants focus intensively on recovery, heal from the deeper roots of addictive behaviour, and develop routines and skills that can support life beyond the program. The extended timeframe gives women the space to work through not just withdrawal and crisis but also patterns tied to stress, relationships, and community functioning.
For Adults Who Need a Safe, Intentional Residential Start
Rising Above FSJ is often chosen by women whose substance use has already begun undermining stability: work attendance, housing, and emotional balance, and who need a structured residential setting where recovery work is lived daily with accountability, community support, and personal growth.
