Rising Sun Treatment Centre

Updated on: 4 February 2026

About this center

Rising Sun Treatment Centre is a culturally grounded residential addiction recovery program located on Eel Ground First Nation that provides adults with structured support in a supervised live-in environment where healing, community connection, and cultural identity are woven into recovery work alongside clinical sessions. Established in 1988, the centre’s mission centres on awakening personal resilience and wellness through programs shaped by both clinical practice and Indigenous traditions.

Residential Addiction Recovery With Cultural and Therapeutic Integration

Rising Sun operates a small, 10-bed residential facility where participants engage in an 8-week in-house program designed to support alcohol- and drug-free living. Licensed mental health counsellors provide individual and group therapeutic interventions, and the centre incorporates land-based activities that encourage connection with nature alongside structured recovery work. Cultural teachings and spiritual guidance from Elders and knowledge keepers are integrated throughout, helping reinforce identity, strength, and community belonging as part of healing and coping skill building.

Holistic Day and Residential Elements That Support Growth

While core programming is residential, Rising Sun also offers day-program elements that allow clients to participate without overnight stays, and its facilities include wellness resources like a gym, creative spaces, and outdoor opportunities that support overall wellbeing and recovery momentum.

Accessibility and Admission Information

Admission to Rising Sun’s program is cyclical and based on application and readiness; potential participants must complete intake forms, medical clearance, and other required documentation prior to placement. Because capacity is limited and demand is high, applications may be placed on wait lists for scheduled treatment cycles.

A Residential Path Embedded in Community and Tradition

This centre is a strong fit for adults from Indigenous and local Atlantic Canadian communities who seek a recovery path that honours cultural values, integrates spirituality and land-based healing, and embeds therapeutic engagement within the fabric of daily living.
