The 2nd Floor Women’s Recovery Centre in Cold Lake, Alberta is a live-in addiction recovery program exclusively for self-identified women, operated by the Lakeland Centre for Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (LCFASD). This residential facility focuses on supporting women with problematic substance use, with priority given to women who are pregnant or at risk of becoming pregnant, helping them develop healthier lifestyles and long-term recovery.
A Residential Setting Focused on Women’s Healing
Located in a secure, home-like environment with only nine beds, The 2nd Floor provides a 42-day live-in program designed to remove women from high-risk contexts and allow them to engage deeply in recovery work. Residents participate in personalized Individual Recovery Plans (IRPs) that reflect their unique situations and recovery goals, with plans shaped through both one-on-one and group engagement.
Integrated Recovery That Addresses Whole-Life Needs
The programme blends addictions counselling (individual and group), life-skills development, and trauma-informed care with supports such as prenatal education, practical skills (e.g., budgeting and personal hygiene), and cultural connection activities. Alternative therapies such as massage, yoga, meditation, drumming, and art are integrated into daily programming to support emotional regulation, self-reflection, and grounding.
Priority for Women With Pregnancy-Related Needs
While women need not be pregnant to attend, priority is given to those who are pregnant or at risk of pregnancy, a focus that aligns with the centre’s goal of supporting healthy pregnancies and reducing future substance-related harms. Pregnant residents may stay until approximately one month before their baby’s expected birth, allowing significant recovery and stabilization during pregnancy.
Aftercare and Transition Planning for Sustained Success
Recovery at The 2nd Floor extends beyond residential living. Aftercare planning begins early in the stay, helping residents connect with community supports and services that sustain recovery after discharge. This transition planning strengthens personal support networks and reinforces progress made during the programme.
A Gender-Responsive Pathway to Lasting Change
The 2nd Floor Women’s Recovery Centre resonates with women who are ready for an immersive residential programme tailored to their life circumstances, particularly those balancing addiction recovery with pregnancy-related concerns. By blending structured care, life-skills development, and personalised support, the centre offers a focused pathway toward healthier lifestyles and stronger futures.
