The 12 Steps Programs: Food Addicts Anonymous
There are many different fellowships that have adopted the 12 Steps philosophy that was invented for Alcoholics Anonymous. One of them is Food Addicts Anonymous.
The Food Addicts Anonymous fellowship was founded in 1987 in West Palm Beach, Florida. It was created by Judith C. The purpose of the fellowship is to get people to abstain from eating all carbohydrate foods which lead to overeating. Some people truly are addicted to these types of food products. They do so by using the 12 steps philosophy which was slightly changed to fit the needs of those addicted to food.
The Food Addicts Anonymous fellowship is not associated with any specific diet or weight-loss program. It encourages abstinence from products such as sugar, flour, wheat, etc. but does not advocate any weight-loss program.
The fellowship also took initiative in order to reach more and more people. They set up online meetings. These online meetings are made through a chat room. It is available 24/7 and can be accessed from all around the world. So that it is widely accessible for anybody who needs it. There are also free phone meetings that are available to the entire world.
By 2007, Food Addicts Anonymous was present in the United States, Canada, Australia, England, Ireland, Sweden and Norway. There were 150 weekly meetings held in these different countries. There are also many phones and online meetings that people can attend. This way, a lot of people can get over their addiction to junk foods and so live a healthier lifestyle.
