Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) In Northwest Territories

Within many intensive outpatient programs are group therapy programs, which involves the clients gathering together and discussing the issues with the help of an addition's counselor. The purpose of group counseling is to help addicts learn how to maintain a healthy relationship with his or her family and the other people within their lives. These group sessions are very structured and are within safe environments, and will help an addict work through their issues, and learn a new way to live a clean and sober lifestyle. Because group sessions involve the patient to openly disclose their issues, it can be hard for some clients to take part in this. If this is the case, the patient can receive individual counseling and support from trained and qualified professionals. Regardless of who the addict is speaking to it is important to share feelings and thoughts about what is happening. This is the only way that any patient can make lead way with treatment. Becoming more self aware is an important step and this new awareness will ensure the patient can take further steps to improve his or her life.

Intensive outpatient programs offer a wide range of services for clients, with much of it revolving around individual therapy. The therapy process within an intensive outpatient center will occur daily, and the patient can potentially be attending treatment five to seven hours a day for a few days a week. This can of course be more or less depending on how the patient is responding to treatment. Most intensive outpatient programs will accommodate a patient’s need, but some clients may require more specialized rehabilitation, and if this is the case, they can be referred to the proper resources. Within the Northwest Territories are some intensive outpatient programs to help people from all backgrounds. Because most programs may not be offered within smaller communities, the resources available are in the large towns and cities.
