Ask a Professional

  • How do I find drug rehabilitation services in Prince Edward Island?

Addiction and substance use services are offered as part of the healthcare system in PEI. It is done through telehealth, community-based health facilities, hospitals, government departments, and community partners across the province. Private drug rehabilitation is best found through an internet search and contacting facilities to receive an assessment.

  • What does drug rehab cost in PEI?

The cost of drug rehabilitation in the province varies, depending on whether it is a private facility or a government-funded drug rehab center. Private substance use treatment centers cost between $5,000 and $30,000. Drug rehab programs offered by the province are covered by provincial healthcare. When paying for private drug rehab, families often pool resources and seek medical financing, payment plans, or crowdfunding.

  • What detox and withdrawal management services are offered in Prince Edward Island?

The provincial addiction treatment facility provides supportive and medically supervised withdrawal management from alcohol and drugs. The facility has 28 inpatient withdrawal management beds for men and women. It is also recommended to consider drug rehabilitation programs out of the province.

  • Should I find drug rehab in other provinces if nothing is available on Prince Edward Island?

Yes, as the unfortunate aspect of drug rehab in the Maritimes is the limited options. It is not uncommon for families and addicts to find drug rehab in other provinces because there is no availability of treatment options in PEI. In addition, it is often better to attend drug rehab in an unfamiliar environment as there are fewer distractions.

  • What do I do if I suspect an accidental drug overdose?

It is vital to call 911 right away. The Canadian Good Samaritan law protects people from being charged with simple drug possessions. In addition, call 911 even if naloxone is used, as it may not entirely counteract the effects of opioids.
