Drug and alcohol problems have always been problems that many Quebecois faces, and just recently Fentanyl has been becoming an issue. Addiction to opiates whether they are prescription drugs or illicit street drugs can lead to dangerous addictions. The drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs within the province tend to see hundreds of patients each year who are struggling with some form of opiate addiction. The treatment resources within the province include residential long-term treatment programs, outpatient facilities, and detox centers.

Information on Drug Rehab
The province of Quebec is not an exception when we talk about drug abuse. Alcohol and drugs such as marijuana, cocaine/crack, and other substances, like non-prescribed medication and anti-depressants, are the most commonly abused drugs in the province of Quebec. Trends show a decrease in the use of hallucinogens, such as mushrooms. We also can notice that hard drug addictions (heroin, morphine, etc.) represent less than 1% of drug dependencies in Quebec. The need for drug rehab has become obvious as many need drug rehab in order to get over their drug addiction.
Private Drug Rehab Treatment In Quebec
There are several options for drug rehab for the population of Quebec. One of these options is for the addict to attend private drug rehab. One can attend one in Quebec or elsewhere in Canada. The main advantage of private rehabs is that they usually have little or no waiting time, while a government-funded rehab can have a long waiting list. Many alcohol and drug addicts really can’t afford to wait once they have decided to get help. When you or someone you love is caught in the vicious circle of addiction, it is often a very confusing situation. Therefore, it can be hard to know exactly how to look for rehab treatments. A person in Quebec may not necessarily know if private treatment would be the best thing for them.
Ask a Professional
How do I pay for drug rehab in Quebec?
Quebec’s health insurance plan managed by Regie de l’assurance maladie du Quebec covers substance use treatment, such as detox, medication-assisted treatment, outpatient drug rehab, and residential drug rehab. Paying for private drug rehab involves out-of-pocket costs. Families often pool resources, ask for a payment plan, increase their credit, or seek medical financing.
How do I find drug rehab in Quebec?
There are various resources to locate drug rehab in Quebec. A help and referral telephone service called Drugs: Help and Referral is available 24/7. In addition, addiction assessments are provided through health care providers. When searching for private drug rehab, an internet search for drug rehab programs in Quebec will point you in the right direction.
Is it better to attend drug rehab outside of Montreal?
Depending on how bad the drug addiction is, it is beneficial to find drug rehab in a different city or town. Drug use in Montreal is extensive, and it can be difficult to attend drug rehab in a familiar city with easy drug access. There is a significant benefit to attending drug rehab in a different city or town because there is less chance of relapse.
Are there opioid addiction treatment programs in Quebec?
Yes, there are medication-assisted treatment options and withdrawal management for opioid addiction. This may include medical detox or clinical detox programs. Outpatient and residential drug rehab programs are also available in Quebec, and many specialize in treating opioid addiction.
Do drug rehab programs in Quebec provide services in English?
Yes, most of the drug rehab and detox centers in the province offer services in English, especially in Montreal. Generally, drug rehab is bi-lingual, providing services in French and English.

Quebec Drug Abuse is Constant
The drug addiction problems in Quebec have a prevalence rate of 9.12%. The city of Montreal has a prevalence rate of 8.08%, which is one of the lowest for a major city in Canada. The estimates were very low in the urban corridor between Toronto and Montreal. This low level of alcohol and drug abuse contrasts with the western provinces. The province of Quebec has many problems with cocaine, and opiate-based drugs, while the club drug scene is also very strong along with amphetamines, such as speed. When drug tests were conducted at one of Canada’s largest military bases in Valcartier, just north of Quebec City, it was found that 51 people tested positive for cocaine. Out of those tested, 54 people tested positive for marijuana and several had tested positive for amphetamines. The province of Quebec provides many different resources to handle drug addiction, but it is still a major problem throughout the province. That is why we need people to get into a drug rehab center to help with the drug problems in Quebec. There are several drug rehab centers in Montreal and so there are many choices for an addict in order to get help.
Fast Facts
Individuals reaching for help have problems with a large variety of drugs from regular drugs such as cocaine, crack, methamphetamine, GHB, and others but also an escalating use of prescription drugs used coming from people with addiction predisposition but also others without it. This is due to the high degree of dependency on these drugs. Alcohol remains a major problem in Quebec.
