St. John's, Newfoundland Drug Rehab Centers

The community of Newfoundland does tend to have somewhat of a diverse age group, from large populations of retirees to new families and younger adults only there for school. The drug and alcohol problems exist all throughout the island, and these are issues with cocaine, alcohol, and pain medications. The drug and alcohol treatment resources that are available within Newfoundland and Labrador include residential drug rehab, Narcotics Anonymous meetings, Al-anon meetings, Adult Children of Alcoholics meetings, and Naranon meetings all situated across the island. Despite there being few resources, families, and addicts can still manage to find some type of help.

About St. John’s, Newfoundland Drug Rehab Centers

The population of St. John’s does not tend to increase or decrease rapidly, and this is because generations of families stay connected with the island of Newfoundland, and despite working in other parts of Canada, they still have homes in Newfoundland. Like other parts of the Maritimes, drug addiction is a major issue for the city, with alcohol abuse and pain medication abuse being the two main culprits..

St. John’s Outpatient Drug Treatment

Within the city of St. John's, there are not necessarily any formal outpatient drug and alcohol rehab programs, except for the numerous locations where twelve-step meetings are helping. The 12-step recovery process has worked for so many people, and it can also benefit families who have been directly affected by a person's drug and alcohol abuse. The on-going support and caring approach from others helps people know they are not alone with this, and something can be done to cope and help a loved one addicted to drugs.

St. John’s Drug Rehab Information As well As Situation

St. John’s is a town that is spread over a reasonable area and therefore, does not have too many residents. However, the number of teen drug addiction is on the rise. Of the total population of half a million people in Newfoundland, there are only 180,000 people living in St. John's. The population itself does not give many opportunities for drug and alcohol abuse; nevertheless, it cannot be disregarded that there is a problem there. In Newfoundland, there are about 11.6% who are addicted to Cannabis and 0.9% to Cocaine. There were also a few surveys done that reported almost 36% of alcohol use in Newfoundland students apart from cigarettes, and other types of drugs that are prevalent in that area. Some of the most commonly used substances in this province are cannabis and tobacco. The survey also reported that almost 18% of those who consumed alcohol had admitted that they drove vehicles within an hour’s time, while 20% of cannabis users said that they drove vehicles within an hour of its consumption. Some of the recent survey reports also show that consumption of ecstasy is on the rise and the ones who are succumbing to it are teens.

Sex Trade and Addiction

A few years ago there was a report that sex trade in the province was on the rise, and the major contributor for this was drug and alcohol consumption. The news clip states that the reason why young men and women turn to prostitution is that they want to make the money to fuel their drug consumption.
